Why Atiku Disowned Daniel Bwala

Atiku Abubakar has disowned Daniel Bwala who served as a media aide to his 2023 presidential campaign saying that their relationship ended after the 2023 campaign and that Nigerians should identify him with his present alliance.

Atiku made the clarification following the reconciliation of Bwala and President Bola Tinubu and the recent assertion by the former spokesman to be identified with the present administration.

GWG.ng reports that Bwala who was a member of the All Progressives Congress, APC had left the party in 2022 after Tinubu decided to run on a Muslim-Muslim ticket. He had gone on to serve as media aide to the Atiku Campaign and lashed out at Tinubu saying the president was unfit to govern ridiculing the then candidate’s bla-blu quotes.

He also famously said that “your brain stops working once you join APC.”

Bwala, however, shocked many when he visited Tinubu in the Presidential Villa last January and subsequently was one of those who visited him in Paris, France during the president’s private visit to that country.

Bwala has since then been explaining away the problems of the Tinubu government and most recently alleging that the cost of living crisis in Nigeria was a global phenomenon.

Reacting to media quotes referring to him as a former aide of Atiku, the media office of the ex vice president in a statement on Tuesday said:

“Bwala is a former spokesperson of Atiku/Okowa Presidential Campaign Organisation and not a former aide to the former Vice President.

“It is important that the media and the general public take corrective note of defining Mr Daniel Bwala as an aide to His Excellency Atiku Abubakar.

“media Bwala offered his services and support to the Atiku/Okowa Presidential Campaign Organisation as a spokesperson – and it was a position he held during the last presidential campaign.

“Subsequently, and after the election, the need for a campaign spokesperson has terminated, and Bwala has moved on with his career.

“This, therefore, serves as notice to the media and the interested public to desist from defining Bwala as an ex-aide of Atiku Abubakar.

“We duly urge the public to henceforth recognise, introduce, and define Daniel Bwala by his current vocation and alliance,” Atiku said giving reason why he disowned his former aide.
