Gunmen have reportedly killed no fewer than three people and kidnapped several others in separate attacks launched in communities in Katsina State on Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

GWG gathered the gunmen invaded a mosque in Yargoje, Kankara Local Government Area of the state during Ishai prayer on Wednesday night, opened fire on the unsuspecting Muslim worshippers, and killed three of them.

An anonymous source said: “The assailants descended upon our Muslim brothers during Ishai prayer. Tragically, two of them lost their lives within the mosque premises, while a third met a fatal end outside the mosque while attempting to escape the onslaught. Four others sustained injuries and are currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Kankara.

“Unfortunately, the man’s refusal to go with the assailants cost him his life as he was mercilessly butchered for daring to defy the abductors.”

In another incident, at about 2:30 am on Thursday, the gunmen struck the residence of Sani Maikifi, a vigilante member, in Ungwar Tudun Boka within Kankara township.

But Sani managed to escape through his backyard, escaping the claws of the assailants. But his wife and son were not as fortunate. They were abducted by the assailants.

The source also revealed that the gunmen who had been tailing Sani for some time now, struck silently, infiltrating the community within Kankara township without raising alarm.
