Uzodimma Ponders Option As Thugs, Tension Envelope Edo APC Guber

Tension is enveloping Benin, the Edo State capital following a stalemate in the Edo State governorship primary election of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

GWG.ng reports that the stalemate commenced as votes began to emerge despite claims that there was no voting in the respective wards despite the fact that votes were being churned out. It was gathered that it was at that while the collation was ongoing a notable political merchant of violence in the state led thugs to scatter the collation of the votes.

At the point of the interruption of the thugs it was gathered that Senator Monday Okpebholo was leading in eight of the local governments announced. Rep Dennis Idahosa who has been variously reported to be the aspirant backed by the immediate past governor of the state, Senator Adams Oshiomhole was said to be trailing with victory in two of the local government areas.

The intervention of the thugs it was gathered moved activities to the headquarters of the Edo APC Primary Election Committee inside Protea Hotels, GRA, Benin City.

Governor Hope Uzodimma it was gathered was in a meeting with other members of the committee to proffer a way of escape out of the stalemate.

However, a political observer told GWG.ng that the governor was looking for a way to do his job and escape the unfolding showdown in Benin.

GWG.ng had earlier reported that the party leadership in Abuja had resolved to zone the ticket to Edo Central with the permutation on Senator Okpebholo.

Idahosa, however, is from Edo South.

Ahead of the primary election, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu who had been widely speculated as being the most potent aspirant had withdrawn from the race. He was followed by Mr Lucky Imasuen who claimed he was heeding the party’s directive.

Another aspirant, Ernest Umakhihe, a former Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security also withdrew from the Edo APC primary election just as the voting commenced.
