BREAKING: APC Reverses Uzodimma On Edo Primary, Gives New Directive
The National Working Committee NWC of the All Progressives Congress, APC has reversed the declarations made thus far of a winner for the Edo State governorship primary and notably set aside results as made by Governor Hope Uzodimma, chairman of the primary election panel.
The decision to reverse the declarations as concerning the APC candidate for the Edo 2024 election was agreed at a meeting of the NWC on Tuesday.
GWG.ng reports that the election had been marred by not just violence in the process of collation of the results, but an eruption of discord between Governor Uzodimma and some other members of the panel.
It would be recalled that the returning officer for the election, Dr Stanley Ugboajah had declared Senator Monday Okpebholo as the winner while Governor Uzodimma had declared Rep Dennis Idahosa as the winner. Other aspirants have also declared themselves as winners.
However, addressing the controversies, the party in a statement late on Tuesday night declared that the primary election had not been concluded.
In the statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, he said that the process would be concluded on Thursday.
The party said:
At its emergency meeting held today, Tuesday, February 20, 2024, to consider the report on the Edo State Governorship Primary Election, the National Working Committee (NWC) deliberated on the report and resolved that the Edo State Governorship Primary Election has not been completed, and has now fixed Thursday February 22, 2024 for the completion of the Primary Election Process.
The party, however, did not give details of the discrepancies observed.
