Labour Party restraining Abure

The leadership of Labour Party has announced nine aspirants who were cleared by the screening committee of the party to partake in the ongoing process to produce the party’s candidate for the forthcoming Edo 2024 governorship election.

The nine cleared by the screening committee were Dr Angela Asom, Prince Tom Iseghohi, Barrister Ken Imansuangbon, Mr Abegbe Osabhuphien and Dr Blessing Akele.

The others cleared were Prof Eboh Eromosele, Barrister Olumide Akpata, Dr Loretta Oduware Ogborroko and Hon Sergius Ogun.

GWG.ng gathered that the nine cleared were all those who purchased the party’s nomination form.

“They were all cleared and no one was dropped” a senior party official told GWG.ng on the basis of anonymity.

GWG.ng reports that the ward delegate election being presided over by the national vice-chairman, Southeast, Chief Innocent Okeke is expected to produce two delegates each who will partake in the primary election on Thursday where the candidate will emerge.

The Labour Party has opted not to zone its candidate ahead of the election but chose to follow the delegate system in producing its candidate.

GWG.ng further reports that Labour Party had been looked upon as the third force in Edo State given its robust showing in the last General Election when the party appeared to displace the major political parties in the contest for street popularity.

However, with the PDP and APC already enmeshed in crisis the focus is on Labour Party producing a seamless contest that could prove pivotal in altering the permutations in the Edo 2024 election.
