Why We Harkened To Edo Central – Edo South APC Leaders

Some of the leading lights in the All Progressives Congress, APC in Edo South, Edo State have opened up on why they harkened to back the emergence of Senator Monday Okpebholo as the party’s choice for the Edo 2024 governorship election.

In a statement made available to GWG.ng the leaders cited the need for equity and good neighbourness with Esan brothers given their plea for inclusivity.

The Edo South APC leaders who signed the statement included Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu and one time deputy governor of the state, Lucky Imasuen, both of whom bought the form but stepped down in consideration of power shift to Edo Central and to Okpebholo in particular.

They said:

Dear Esteemed Edo Leaders,

In response to the passionate appeal from our beloved brothers and sisters in Edo Central Senatorial district, we, as leaders from Edo South, have wholeheartedly thrown our support behind their aspiration to produce a governor of Esan extraction. Throughout history, we have been beneficiaries of the unwavering support of the Esan nation, and we express our profound gratitude for their sacrifices. As they seize this opportunity to lead, we wish them every success.

In the recent All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election, our great party has elected a formidable and worthy candidate to carry our flag in the upcoming September 2024 election. We are pleased to have supported the emergence of distinguished Sen. Monday Okpevbolo from Esan Central local government area. We believe his victory is not just a political outcome; it is divinely ordained, aligning with the principles of equity, fairness, and good neighborliness.

To our esteemed brothers in Edo South and North, we passionately appeal to you to embrace Sen. Monday Okpevbolo as a cherished member of our extended family. He embodies humility, godliness, respect, and responsibility, and we are confident he will make an exceptional governor.

This moment transcends political alliances. It transcends regional agendas. It marks the inception of a new era—an Edo agenda—for the benefit and upliftment of all Edo people. Sen. Monday Okpevbolo’s leadership is a beacon of hope, a unifying force that binds us together in the pursuit of a better Edo.

As we move forward, let us stand united as a family, an unbreakable force of progress. In the words of Gen. Yakubu Gowon at the end of the Nigerian Civil War, “No victor, no vanquished.” This victory is a collective opportunity for positive change in Esan land, Afemai land, and throughout Edo.

Together, let us usher in an era of prosperity, inclusivity, and enduring unity.

Signed:
