Speaker Bilyaminu Moriki of Zamfara House of Assembly stirred controversy on Tuesday by suspending eight lawmakers for alleged misconduct, conspiracy, and illegal sitting.

The announcement came during the Assembly’s plenary in Gusau, prompted by a motion from Majority Leader Bello Mazawaje, citing violations of Assembly rules.

Mazawaje detailed how the suspended members forcibly entered the Clerk’s office, obstructed access to the chamber, and conducted an unlawful sitting. He urged fellow lawmakers to support the motion, highlighting alleged contempt, conspiracy, and misconduct.

Deputy Speaker Adamu Aliyu echoed concerns, emphasizing the need for sanctions to uphold legislative integrity. Chief Whip Rilwanu Marafa condemned the illegal sitting, advocating for disciplinary measures.

However, Minority Whip Nura Dahiru called for a thorough investigation, emphasizing the importance of justice and fairness.

The suspended lawmakers include Bashir Aliyu, Amiru Keta, Nasiru Abdullahi, Bashir Masama, Faruku Dosara, Ibrahim Tukur, Shamsudeen Hassan, and Bashiru Sarkin-Zango.
