Group Wants Posthumous Awards For Ojougboh, Others Who Died Watching Nigeria AFCON Match
A group, Anioma Youth Forum Worldwide (AYF-W) has called on the Federal Government to confer posthumous national awards on deceased All Progressives Congress, APC chief, Dr. Cairo Ojougboh and others who lost their lives while watching the AFCON match between Nigeria and South Africa.
The group made the call in a statement made available to GWG.ng and issued by its National President, Comrade Nnamdi O. Ofonye and National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ekwukwo Elvis.
Justifying the call for an awards on Ojougboh and others, the group said:
“This call is necessary as we believe that it was their massive love and passion for the Nigerian flag that led to their untimely deaths.
“Dr. Ojougboh who most recently served as Executive Director (Projects) in the NDDC in no small means contributed immensely to national growth, peace and cohesion during his stint on earth.
“It is worthy of note to state that such awards will alleviate the pains in the minds of their loved ones and ensure that they didn’t die in vain.
“Also, such awards will signpost a new era where national patriotism is recognized and rewarded whether in live or death which is what the nation needs at a time like this when the level of patriotism by Nigerians is at the lowest.
“Dr. Cairo Ojougbo’s untimely departure has left a noticeable void and AYF-W expresses condolences to his immediate family, Anioma nation, Deltans and Nigeria at large.
“As their family and friends continue to grieve over these deaths cum sacrifice for the nation’s pride, AYF-W hopes that the government will heed to this call and take necessary steps to ensure the lasting memory of these fallen patriots. The plea is not just for remembrance but also for the acknowledgment of their dedication, passion and love for Nigeria.”
