In a touching twist of fate, Awwalu Salisu, a 23-year-old tricyclist from Kano, captured hearts nationwide when he returned a staggering sum of N15 million left behind by a Chadian businessman in his tricycle back in 2023. This act of integrity and honesty did not go unnoticed.

LEADERSHIP Media Group, during its annual conference and awards ceremony, honored Awwalu with the prestigious ‘Outstanding Young Person of the Year 2023’ Award, recognizing his remarkable display of integrity.

Among the attendees was Peter Obi, a fellow awardee and presidential candidate of the Labour Party, who was hailed as the ‘LEADERSHIP Politician of the Year 2023’. In a generous gesture, Obi extended a scholarship offer to Awwalu, covering his education up to the PhD level at Baze University in Abuja.

Not to be outdone, Niger State governor Mohammed Umar Bago, who shared the title of LEADERSHIP Governor of the Year, joined in the celebration. With a touch of humor, Bago jokingly remarked that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) couldn’t let the Labour Party steal the spotlight.

In a show of appreciation for Awwalu’s honesty and as a means to inspire other young Nigerians, Bago announced a substantial N250 million scholarship award. This included contributions from himself, President Bola Tinubu, his ministers, the APC Governors Forum, and the Niger State government.

Additionally, Bago pledged to name one of the road projects in Niger State after the commendable Kano Keke rider, further immortalizing Awwalu’s virtuous deed.
