Rafa Benitez Sacked By Celta Vigo Amidst Relegation Threat In La Liga

Rafa Benitez’s time at Celta Vigo has come to an end sooner than expected. The club decided to part ways with him following a disappointing performance, especially their recent heavy defeat against Real Madrid. The defeat left Celta hovering dangerously close to the relegation zone in La Liga, just one spot above and with a slim margin of only two points.

During his tenure, Rafa Benitez managed to secure only five wins out of 28 league matches, accumulating a mere 24 points. This underwhelming record led to his departure, despite being appointed just last summer.

As Celta currently sits at 17th place, their position remains precarious, with Cadiz trailing closely behind after ending a long winless streak with a victory against Atletico Madrid.

In their official statement, Celta expressed gratitude towards Benitez and his coaching staff, acknowledging their dedication and professionalism despite the challenges faced.

Benitez’s managerial journey spans across various prestigious clubs. He notably enjoyed success at Liverpool, where he clinched the Champions League title in 2005. However, his stints at Everton and Newcastle United were met with mixed results. At Everton, he faced the axe after a series of defeats, while at Newcastle, he achieved promotion to the Premier League but later departed.

His managerial career also includes stints at Real Madrid, Napoli, Inter Milan, and Valencia. Even during a brief stint as interim coach at Chelsea, Rafa Benitez managed to secure the Europa League trophy in 2013.
