The Rivers State Police Command has uncovered and retrieved the body of Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Bako Angbashim, in charge of Ahoada Police Division, six months after he was murdered by cultists. Angbashim, a Superintendent of Police, was brutally killed by a cult group on September 8, 2023, in Odiemude Community, Ahoada-East LGA of the State.

Following over six months of pursuit, the Police recently announced the killing of Gift David Okpara, also known as 2Baba, the main suspect in the murder of the senior Police Officer. According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Grace Iringe-Koko, Angbashim’s grave was found near a shrine within 2Baba’s camp in Odiemude Community.

The recovered remains of the late DPO have been transferred to the mortuary for scientific examination and genetic testing, as stated in the statement. The Police Command expressed satisfaction with the progress made in the investigation and emphasized its commitment to ensuring justice prevails.

A coordinated joint operation by tactical squads from the Rivers State Police Command and personnel from the Force Intelligence Bureau led to the discovery of Angbashim’s burial site within 2Baba’s gang shrine during a search operation on March 10, 2024. The recovered remains, including the deceased officer’s skull, are undergoing forensic analysis to confirm their identity.

Efforts are ongoing to locate and retrieve other parts of Angbashim’s body suspected to be buried at undisclosed locations within the forest. Notably, 2Baba, the gang leader responsible for the crime, was killed during a police operation on February 17, 2024, but his body was later found in a shallow grave in the Ebrass forest after an intensive search.

The Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, commended the joint security team for their unwavering dedication in the operation. He also appreciated the support of the community members throughout the investigation process and assured the public of the Police’s commitment to apprehending the remaining gang members.

The Rivers State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace, security, and justice within the state, promising to provide regular updates on the investigation’s progress as it unfolds.
