Super Eagles: Over 40 Applications Received As NFF Mulls Foreign Coach
There are indications that the Technical Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is considering hiring a new foreign coach to replace Jose Peseiro as the Super Eagles head coach.
Following the NFF’s call for interested coaches to apply for the Super Eagles job, over 40 local and foreign coaches have reportedly applied. Among them are former Nigerian internationals like Emmanuel Amuneke, Finidi George, Daniel Amokachi, Sunday Oliseh, Salisu Yusuf, and Sylvanus Okpala.
Also in the race is Micheal Nsien, a Nigerian coach currently handling the USA U-17 and U-19 national teams. Antonio Canceicao, a former coach of the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, is one of the foreign tacticians favored to land the job.
A member of the NFF Technical Committee, speaking anonymously, emphasized the need for a foreign coach with extensive experience to handle the Super Eagles. He stated that while indigenous coaches are not disregarded, the Super Eagles require someone with a track record of achievements at the international level.
The committee member stressed the importance of a foreign coach who can contribute to the overall development of Nigerian football. He explained that the Super Eagles’ stature demands a coach with world-class skills and managerial experience.
The Technical Committee recently convened in Abuja to review the applications for both the Super Eagles head coach and the Golden Eaglets’ coach. Discussions centered on selecting the most suitable candidate to lead the national team forward.
