Elizabeth Zannu from Nigeria etched her name in history books at the 2023 African Games, marking a monumental moment as she clinched the first-ever medal in the newly introduced arm wrestling event. This edition of the games marked the debut of arm wrestling as an official scoring event, making Zannu’s achievement all the more significant.

Zannu’s remarkable feat unfolded in the women’s 55kg category, where she faced off against formidable competition, including Ghana’s Racheal Lankai. Displaying sheer determination and skill, Zannu emerged victorious, securing her place in history as the pioneer medalist in African Games arm wrestling.

Beyond Zannu’s groundbreaking triumph, Team Nigeria demonstrated prowess across various sporting disciplines. In a thrilling match, the Nigerian women’s beach volleyball team triumphed over Rwanda, claiming the bronze medal.
