Veteran Nollywood actor Norbert Young recently weighed in on the topic of why women tend to earn more than men in the Nigerian film industry.

During an interview covering various subjects like the evolution of Nollywood and pension plans for veteran actors, the 63-year-old actor from Warri shared his insights.

According to Young, women often have more bargaining power and consequently attract higher pay. He emphasized that this doesn’t imply any negative connotations, as women are appreciated for their work and talent.

“People love women, they love what they do, and women attract more money,” Young stated, debunking the notion that this reflects negatively on them.

He further explained that every actor has their own negotiating power, and women might simply be better at bargaining for higher pay. However, he highlighted the importance of individual priorities, suggesting that what is considered better pay varies from person to person.

When asked about the trend of actors seeking financial assistance for medical treatment on social media, Young remarked that while it is prevalent in Nollywood, it’s not unique to the industry.

He pointed out that such appeals are common worldwide, emphasizing that social media amplifies and magnifies these occurrences.

Norbert Young’s illustrious career spans over three decades, during which he has left an indelible mark on the Nigerian entertainment scene. Renowned for his roles in projects like ‘Third Eye,’ ‘Checkmate,’ ‘Tinsel,’ and ‘Family Circle,’ Young has also graced the stage in numerous plays and theatrical productions.
