Nigerian Man Arrested for Macheting 90-Year-Old Grandmother to Death

In a disturbing development, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command has apprehended one Nkereuwem Umoren Ekpo for the brutal murder of his 90-year-old grandmother, Martina Udoudo Akpan. The tragic incident, which occurred on February 25, 2024, sent shockwaves through the community of Adiasim Ikot Udo village in Essien Udim Local Government Area.

According to the State Commissioner of Police, CP Waheed Ayilara, Ekpo allegedly used a machete to fatally wound his grandmother while they were engaged in cutting cassava stem in the farm. The vicious attack resulted in the elderly woman’s untimely demise, leaving the community in mourning.

In a chilling twist, Ekpo is accused of callously looting his grandmother’s belongings, absconding with the sum of N16,750 that he had reportedly untied from her wrapper. The shocking act of violence and theft has left the community reeling with disbelief and outrage.

The arrest of Umoren Ekpo was announced during a press briefing where the State Commissioner of Police paraded him alongside 51 other suspects arrested for various crimes in the state.

As investigations into the heinous crime continue, the community grapples with the tragic loss of Martina Udoudo Akpan and seeks solace in the pursuit of justice for her untimely demise with the prosecution of her grandson, Umoren Ekpo .
