The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has said that it is set to produce the first elected female governor in Nigeria through its candidate for the September 21 Edo governorship election, Madam Patience Key.

The party made the promise of producing the first female governor in Nigeria just as the candidate, Key promised to focus on human capital development.

Key said this in Abuja on Monday when she received the PRP’s Certificate of Return for the Edo governorship election

” Am running for the the governorship of the state to bring about development.

“We are looking at human capital development. When we talk about human capital development which our party believes in; it is about believing in the capacity of every citizen.

“We believe in serving the people; the poor people; the under severed population. What we want to do is to take them from where they are and transform their livelihoods.

“We want to make sure every single citizen in Edo does not cry of poverty, unemployment and that the state does not cry of retrogression anymore,” Key who is also aspiring to become the first elected female governor in Nigeria said.

Key, also a former Chairman, Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation, Americas, promised to also give priority to women empowerment.

“We are going to have a lot of women in leadership, we are not going to have a lot of women in leadership because they are women but because they are pragmatic.

“We will give them that opportunity, what we call empowerment to be able to understand that leadership is not  competition, leadership is a collaboration.

“Everybody coming together, working together. Collaboration is key to me. It is making sure there is a job to be done,” she said.

Key said she was optimistic of defeating the major political parties in the election.
“It is not a fight. I have come to understand that the people of Edo, they are not pushovers, they cannot be easily swayed. We know what we want and when we want it,” she said.

The party’s National Chairman, Malam Falalu Bello presented the certificate to Key and expressed optimism of winning the Edo poll.

Bello, represented by the party’s National Treasurer, Mr Abdullahi Bayawo said that the party was proud of Key for picking its governorship ticket.
“We have ruled in Kano, Kaduna and by the grace of God, our candidate will be the first female governor in Nigeria.

“She has participated in the primaries of our general election of 2023. Key has done a lot of things for people and we believe this is the right time for the people of Edo  to pay her back.

“People have tried APC and PDP. Now is time for them to try PRP. If she is voted into power, a lot of changes will take place in Edo,” he said.(NAN)
