“We Gave Them Kola, Wedged It With Money,” Okuama Indigenes Open Up On Encounter With Slain Soldiers (Video)

Residents of Okuama in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State are calling on the Federal, State Government and the military to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident in the community that led to the death of 16 military officers and personnel and the arising scorching and killing of an estimated members of the community.

Recall that reported the tragic incident that occurred in Delta State. where some soldiers on a peace mission were murdered, resulting in the deaths of some military personnel.

The unfortunate incident occurred when the troops responded to a distress call after the communal crisis between the Okuama and Okoloba communities, both in Delta State.

The reinforcement team led by the commanding officer was also attacked, leading to the deaths of the commanding officer, two majors, one captain, and 12 soldiers.

Concern looms large among the entire populace of Ughelli South Local Government, as they fear potential reprisals from the military personnel. Residents are urging the Federal Government to intervene and investigate the matter comprehensively.

Some residents of Okuoma, who requested anonymity during an interview with DRTV, recounted the events leading up to the tragedy. They claimed that “the soldiers had visited the community for a peace dialogue and were warmly received at the Town Hall for discussions with community leaders. Following the meeting, the soldiers allegedly demanded that the Chairman and Secretary of the community accompany them to an undisclosed location, a request vehemently rejected by the community members. This refusal purportedly led the soldiers to open fire, resulting in the deaths of three individuals in the community, following which another 50 persons were said to have been killed in the reprisal killings”

The military has, however, dismissed the claims of the villagers as propaganda.
