President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced a three-month suspension on all publicly funded foreign trips for ministers, heads of agencies, and government officials effective from April 1, 2024 in a move expected to shore up the revenues of Nigeria.

The announcement was disclosed in a letter signed by Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajablamila.

According to the letter, President Tinubu emphasized the requirement for government officials planning to undertake any publicly funded foreign trips out of Nigeria trips to first obtain presidential approval at least two weeks in advance. Such trips must be considered as essential in order to proceed.

Gbajablamila explained that the reason for the temporary measure was to cut cost in governance but without compromising government functions.
