A distressing incident has come to light involving Saleem Ibrahim, a student at the University of Maiduguri, who is accused of violently attacking 21-year-old Hauwa Abatcha Ngala.

According to reports, Saleem had persistently pursued Hauwa Ngala, a student at the College of Nursing Sciences in Maiduguri, with romantic advances, which she repeatedly rejected. However, his repeated rejections allegedly fueled Saleem’s violent assault on Hauwa, leaving her unconscious during an attack.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama disclosed that Saleem was initially apprehended by the police but was later released on orders of a senior official in the Borno State Government.

It’s reported that Saleem’s relentless pursuit of Hauwa Ngala escalated into threats of violence, with Saleem allegedly warning her of dire consequences if she did not reciprocate his feelings.

The violent attack on Hauwa occurred on February 26, 2024, resulting in severe injuries and a head wound. Despite Saleem’s alleged confession and threats, he reportedly fled the scene, leaving Hauwa to be rescued by relatives.

Following his arrest, Saleem was released by the police, prompting outrage from Hauwa’s family, who have demanded justice for the victim.

Jummai Mshelia, the Borno Coordinator of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), condemned the attack and called for swift legal action to ensure justice is served. She urged the public to report incidents of abuse to relevant authorities to effectively combat such crimes in society
