A potential accident cum disaster was narrowly averted on the Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos on Friday morning as a BRT bus, carrying approximately 60 passengers from the mainland to the island, veered dangerously close to plunging into the lagoon.

The harrowing incident occurred when the bus, while in motion, swayed off course and began climbing the divider, seemingly destined for the water below. However, the situation was brought under control by the rail rod from the front of the bus, which pierced the engine, bringing it to an abrupt halt and preventing a catastrophic plunge into the sea.

An eyewitness, whose account was captured in a now-viral video, reported that the BRT bus was packed to capacity with approximately 60 passengers, both seated and standing, at the time of the incident.

Fortunately, despite the gravity of the situation, all passengers emerged unharmed, and no injuries were reported.

“This incident could have resulted in a national tragedy,” remarked an unidentified individual in the video, highlighting the severity of the potential calamity narrowly averted.
