Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, in the 2023 general election, Mr. Peter Obi, urged President Bola Tinubu to prioritize Primary Health delivery services in the country. Obi made this call during an interview at the College of Nursing Sciences, St. Charles Borromeo Specialist Hospital, Onitsha, Anambra State on Thursday.

His advice came after he donated N10 million to support the upgrading of facilities in the College. Obi emphasized the importance of improving critical sectors like health, education, and poverty alleviation to achieve a new Nigeria.

He further urged the President to prohibit the use of Federal Government funds to cover the medical expenses of public office holders seeking treatment overseas. Obi praised the College’s management for its growth since he laid its foundation in 2012 during his tenure as Anambra State governor.

Highlighting the significance of the nursing profession, Obi said, “nurses are the closest medical personnel to any patient in the hospital because after the doctors’ diagnosis and make prescriptions, nurses are the ones who stay to administer the treatments.” He explained that his donation, part of his annual support to the College for 2023, was delayed due to the presidential campaigns.

Obi emphasized the importance of supporting critical sectors even after leaving office, considering it as a way of giving back to society. In response, Archbishop Valerian Okeke expressed gratitude to Obi for his consistent support and efforts for a New Nigeria.

Miss Onyinye Amalu, President of the College’s Students Union Government, hailed Obi as an inspiration for youth, praising his moral behavior, patriotism, and resilience, and thanked him for supporting the college.
