What Oshiomhole Told Me About Shaibu – Obaseki

The thoughts of the immediate past governor of Edo State, Senator Adams Oshiomhole on his erstwhile political protege and adopted son, Comrade Philips Shaibu have been revealed.

“Philip cannot be fighting every finger that feeds him,” Oshiomhole was quoted as saying on Tuesday in the first public assertion by the former governor on his political protegee, Shaibu.

Mr Pedro Obaseki, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP who is also a brother to Governor Godwin Obaseki made the revelation of Oshiomhole’s thoughts in an interview on AIT’s Kakaaki programme on Tuesday.

Obaseki who said he interacted with Oshiomhole while they were on a flight between Benin and Abuja said:

“Oshiomhole told me pointedly in the air, ‘Pedro, in my fight with Godwin Obaseki, if Godwin Obaseki was a gun, Philip Shaibu was the bullet and the trigger in that gun.

“It is important that the nation knows that Philip might have been the principal architect of his own downfall. I believe that there were other avenues that would have been used to stop this melodrama.

“Oshiomhole also told me personally, standing behind me was the former deputy governor of the state, Mr Lucky Imasuen on the same flight that ‘I didn’t support my own deputy, Dr Pius Odubu to (succeed me) but he didn’t take me to court. He didn’t fight me.’

‘So, Philip cannot be fighting every finger that feeds him,” that’s Adams Oshiomhole. I am quoting Adams Oshiomhole.

“Was he saying the truth? Yes. I am from Edo State and the neighbouring state is Delta and I don’t know who the deputy governor is. The next state is Ondo State and I don’t know who the deputy governor is.”

GWG.ng reports that Oshiomhole is generally regarded as Shaibu’s political mentor having facilitated his ascendancy in the Edo State House of Assembly, the House of Representatives and subsequently as deputy governor of the state.

Shaibu was removed as deputy governor on Monday following a faceoff with Governor Obaseki over the latter’s succession plan and had been regarded as the political son of Oshiomhole.
