The police command in Kano has initiated an investigation into the alleged beheading of Mohammed Saidu, a six-year-old, purportedly by a 16-year-old almajiri in Kanwa village, Madobi LGA.

Police commissioner Usaini Gumel confirmed this development on Friday.

The suspect, identified as Abdullahi and reportedly from Zamfara, was found in possession of a blood-stained knife at the scene. Following a search, Saidu’s headless body was discovered in a nearby primary school.

Efforts were made to protect the suspect from being lynched, with authorities taking him to the village head’s house. However, enraged residents overpowered the authorities and attacked the teenager.

Upon the arrival of the police, the suspect confessed to the crime and revealed the whereabouts of the victim’s head. Despite efforts to provide medical treatment, the suspect passed away at Kwankwaso Cottage Hospital. Subsequently, the victim’s remains were examined at the hospital and later released to his relatives for burial.
