Makinde Distances From Wike’s G5 As Tension Mounts Ahead Of PDP NEC

Ahead of the crucial National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) reports of growing challenges within the ranks of the camp led by FCT minister Nyesom Wike are emerging.

Sources reveal that a notable member of the G-5 faction, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, has opted to distance himself from the group, signaling potential fractures within the party’s unity.

Governor Makinde, who has reportedly faced strained relations with the faction in recent times, is allegedly aligning with voices advocating for a change in the party’s current status quo.

While the Wike-led faction is backing Ambassador Illiya Damagum to retain the seat of PDP national chairman, another faction, led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, is pushing for the emergence of Senator Gabriel Suswam.

The upcoming NEC meeting, scheduled for this Thursday, is to be preceded by a series of strategic gatherings, including meetings of the PDP Governors’ Forum, the PDP Caucus, and the Board of Trustees (BoT).

In addition to Suswam, other contenders for the party chairman position from the North Central region include former minister Humphrey Abba (Kogi State) and Dr. Emmanuel Agbo (Benue State).

As tension mounts and factions within the party vie for influence, all eyes are on the outcome of the upcoming NEC meeting and its potential impact on the future direction of the PDP.
