The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has sparked outrage on social media after responding dismissively to a candidate’s suggestion to adjust the timing of the UTME. The candidate had proposed shifting the timing of the UTME from 7am to 9am or 10am, citing concerns that many students would struggle to arrive at their respective CBT centers on time.

However, JAMB’s response was deemed harsh and condescending, with the officials writing: “Please be civil in your language use. No one was a goat. You were guided into perspective. When you have a visa appointment, you never complained of distance, when you book a flight, you get there an hour before time but give flimsy excuses for getting late to the examination center.”

Netizens, particularly prospective JAMB candidates, have taken to social media to express their disappointment and outrage at JAMB’s response on the suggestion of the UTME timing. Many have criticized the officials for their tone, arguing that it was unnecessary and unprofessional.

As the exam season approaches, candidates are calling on JAMB to reconsider their response and engage with students in a more constructive and respectful manner.

Read some netizens reactions below;

@Sambonnu: Is this really official jamb X handle? If yes, you guys are a huge disgrace for putting out this tweet.

@Oreva: Naaaaaa you’re a bad joke, everyone in that useless office is a bad experiment.

@mrtrendy: giving flimsy excuses for frustrating people.

How many students taking JAMB exam have booked their own flight or visa appointments?

Make life easier for people, No, let’s just frustrate them.

@Felintosh: what’s the rational for scheduling exam for 7am knowing that 16 year olds are taking such exams? You must know the dangers inherent in the insecurity pervading the land. These kids have to leave their homes by 5am to get to their centres, doesn’t their lives matter?
