Bobrisky Appeals Against Six-Month Prison Sentence

Controversial cross-dresser, Idris Olanrewaju Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky has petitioned the Lagos Division of the Court of Appeal to overturn the six-month prison sentence handed down to him by Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court.

Rather than the jail term, Bobrisky is urging the appellate court to levy a N50,000 fine for each of the charges leveled against him.

Justice Awogboro sentenced Bobrisky to six months’ imprisonment without the option of a fine following his guilty plea to four counts of Naira abuse filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

In her ruling, the judge emphasized that the severity of the punishment aimed to discourage others from mishandling and defacing Naira notes.

However, Bobrisky, displeased with the judgment, contends in his Notice of Appeal that the lower court’s decision to impose the maximum sentence, despite his lack of prior criminal convictions and the availability of alternatives under the ADCJA, constitutes a miscarriage of justice.
