Less Than 20 Hours electricity

The Nigerian Government announced on Monday that customers experiencing less than 20 hours of electricity would be exempt from paying the new tariff.

Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, made this declaration during a session with the Senate Committee on Power, held for a one-day investigative hearing on the necessity of halting the new electricity tariff.

He emphasized that the Federal government had implemented a new policy aimed at revitalizing the power sector and assured that the challenges being faced were temporary.

This clarification comes amidst the ongoing struggle of electricity consumers grappling with the recent tariff increase imposed by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC.

Additionally, the minister disclosed that the Federal Government would allocate N2.9 trillion to subsidize electricity this year if the tariff adjustment was not reviewed.

He reiterated that the government’s objective in introducing the new policy was to rescue and revitalize the power sector, addressing the longstanding issues faced within the industry.
