A precarious scene unfolded on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, along the Benin-Agbor Road in Edo state, as some residents ignored warnings and attempted to scoop petrol from a fallen tanker. The incident occurred at Okhuaihe Hill, near the Divisional Police office, when the tanker carrying 33,000 liters of PMS fell while the driver struggled to ascend the hills.

Despite the police warning, people rushed to the scene and started collecting the petroleum product, putting themselves at risk of a potential explosion. The Edo State Police Command, through its spokesperson, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, confirmed the incident and urged residents to stay clear of the scene.

In a statement, the Commissioner of Police, CP Funsho Adegboye, warned of the dangers of scooping petroleum products and called on fire services, media outlets, and citizens to sensitize others about the risks. He also appealed to parents and guardians to caution their children and wards against engaging in such dangerous activities, which could result in loss of lives and property.
