In a daring crime, a 20-year-old man, Ahmed Mohammed, has been arrested by the Niger State Police Command for stealing a Point of Sale (POS) machine and withdrawing a substantial amount of money, which he then used to bet on sports.

According to a statement released by the command’s spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, the suspect was apprehended on May 5, 2024, in connection with the theft of the POS machine from a shop at Kainji junction in Mokwa Local Government Area.

During interrogation, Ahmed confessed to having stolen the POS machine and replacing it with a faulty one in his possession. He further revealed that he had observed the POS attendant and copied the password, which he used to withdraw N293,000 from the machine.

In a surprising twist, Ahmed admitted to using the stolen funds to play sports betting, specifically Sporty Bet.

The police command has praised the swift investigation and arrest of the suspect, serving as a warning to potential criminals that such illegal activities will not be tolerated in the state.
