Nollywood actor Yomi Fabiyi has offered new insights into the ongoing appeal case of his colleague, Baba Ijesha, who was sentenced to 5 years in prison for the alleged rape of a minor. In an interview, Fabiyi revealed that the appeal process is still underway, emphasizing that there was no concrete evidence to prove Baba Ijesha’s guilt.

According to Fabiyi, the judge’s decision to sentence Baba Ijesha to 5 years instead of life imprisonment suggests that there were doubts about his culpability. He also pointed out that Princess, the comedian and adoptive mother of the victim, had called Baba Ijesha to shoot a skit, which the victim herself confirmed in court.

Fabiyi further alleged that the actual perpetrator of the crime is walking free, and the victim’s age was not 14 as widely reported. He claimed that the birth certificate was never presented in court, fueling speculation about the case.

GWG.ng recall that Baba Ijesha was convicted in 2022 on charges of indecent treatment of a child, sexual assault, and attempted sexual assault. While he was sentenced to 16 years in prison, he would serve only 5 years consecutively.

Fabiyi, who was present in the courtroom during the initial trial, has consistently advocated the right of Baba Ijesha to appeal, emphasizing that the actor still has legal avenues to explore. He has also called for Princess to be held accountable for parental negligence.

In a show of support, Fabiyi celebrated Baba Ijesha’s birthday in October 2022 with a heartfelt Instagram post, accompanied by a prayer for his colleague’s freedom.

As the appeal case continues, fans and followers of Baba Ijesha are eagerly awaiting the outcome, hoping for justice and closure in this highly publicized controversy.
