Generator Fume Kills

Controversy has emerged over the death of a middle-aged woman and her son in the Umuagwu area of Asaba, Delta State following earlier claims by the police that they died as a result of generator fumes inside their apartment.

Two others were discovered unconscious at the scene. The tragic event has sent shockwaves through the community, with rumors circulating about the cause of death.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Bright Edafe, in his social media post and reported by GWG.ng following the incident claimed that the initial investigation suggested generator fumes as the likely cause of death and cautioned households against sleeping with generators inside their living apartments.

However, the sister of the deceased, Ms. Maureen, has dismissed claims that her sister and nephew died from generator fumes or noodles poisoning, as speculated by some and alluded by the police. She emphatically stated, “The rumor that they died from eating noodles or generator fumes is a lie,” the Delta lady said in disputing the cause of death of her beloved family members. The family is thus seeking answers and justice for their loved ones

As the investigation continues, the community remains in mourning, seeking truth and closure for the bereaved family with many also having to choose the difficult option of following the police advice on generators and sleeping in darkness and heat.
