Man Who Stole Nigerian Lady’s Purse Gets Unique Sentence

In an unconventional sentence, a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court has ordered a man, Garba Aliyu, to sweep the court grounds for three weeks as punishment for stealing a woman’s purse. The 30-year-old defendant was found guilty of breaking into Adanna Ebuka’s store, pretending to buy bread, and making off with her purse.

Police Prosecutor, Inspector Chidi Leo, told the court that the purse was recovered after a thorough police investigation. Aliyu pleaded guilty to the crime, which led Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel to impose the unique sentence.

According to the Magistrate, the defendant’s guilty plea saved the court valuable time, and the punishment was fitting given the circumstances.
