Two men koboko whip to death

An Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Friday, ordered the remand of 19-year-old Imole Dauda and 30-year-old Lateef Tajudeen. The two were accused of flogging a 22-year-old man to death using a ‘koboko’ whip.

The defendants, whose addresses were not disclosed, face charges of conspiracy and murder. Magistrate Oluwabusayo Osho declined to take their pleas, citing a lack of jurisdiction. She instructed the police to forward the case file to the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.

The case has been adjourned until July 18 for mention.

Prosecutor Inspector Olalekan Adegbite informed the court that the alleged murder occurred on May 10 at 8:00 a.m. in Ilupeju, Ibadan. According to Adegbite, Dauda and Tajudeen unlawfully caused the death of Mr. Tosin Adenuga by flogging him repeatedly with a ‘koboko’ whip.

He said that the offences contravened Sections 516 and 319 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
