The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has reportedly suspended Pastor Idowu Iluyomade, the Senior Pastor of the City of David parish in Victoria Island, Lagos State.

GWG.ng learnt that the suspension is linked to the public outcry following the extravagant birthday party of his wife, Siji Iluyomade.

On February 18, 2024, Siji’s lavish 60th birthday celebration drew significant attention and controversy, particularly as it occurred shortly after the death of Herbert Wigwe, the former CEO of Access Bank and a prominent church member.

A video from the event showed popular Nigerian singer Flavour N’abania performing his hit songs, such as “Ada Ada,” “Berna,” and “Adamma,” which sparked further debate.

Many netizens took to social media to express their disapproval of a secular singer performing at a pastor’s party.

Following this backlash, the RCCG Governing Council reviewed the situation and decided to suspend Pastor Iluyomade for three months.

Sources within the church informed The Nation that Pastor Iluyomade has been replaced by Pastor Charles Kpandei from the RCCG Resurrection Parish of Region 11. Pastor Kpandei assumed his new role on Sunday.

According to a top pastor, there was a need to “investigate some of the things people were saying against him and the church.”

The sources confirmed that “it was not Pastor Adeboye that suspended him. The governing council decided to suspend him. I think it’s a decision in the right direction.

Though some believe it is coming late. They needed to investigate some of the things people were saying against him and the church.”
