Trump Above The Law On Official Matters – US Supreme Court

Trump immunity

The camp of President Donald Trump was ecstatic on Monday after the US Supreme Court ruled that former presidents are entitled to absolute immunity from prosecution for official acts taken while in office.

The apex court, however, ruled that presidents have no immunity for unofficial acts done even while in office.

GWG.ng reports that the ruling is now expected to redraw the case against President Trump over the election interference case against him.

It is expected that the prosecutors at the lower courts will have to evaluate the case against Donald Trump in the light of the US court ruling on his immunity on limited cases.

The trial in that case was postponed pending a ruling on the immunity claim, and will now likely be delayed further

Prosecutors in that case allege Trump pressured officials to reverse the 2020 election result and sought to exploit the Capitol riot on 6 January 2021 in an effort to stay in power

The Supreme Court ruled 6-3, with Justice Sonia Sotomayor among those opposing the decision. She said she did so with “fear for our democracy” and “the president is now a king above the law”

GWG.ng reports that the decision on immunity for Donald Trump will add to the bounce he got from his victory in the debate with his rival, President Joe Biden.
