There has been widespread outrage following the action of some young men who were caught extorting N100 from pedestrians passing through a sand bridge under the Lagos Trade Fair bridge.

A video shared on X (formerly Twitter) by user @dammiedammie35 showed the men demanding 100 Naira from anyone crossing the walkway made of sand at under-bridge in the Trade Fair area of Lagos.

In the video, a woman recording the incident on her phone explained how the men were collecting money from passersby.

One of the men even attempted to snatch her phone when he noticed she was recording, but she managed to protect her device.

The video ignited a heated discussion in the comments section, with many expressing shock at the brazenness of the extortion, which some considered a common occurrence in Lagos.

Some defended the men, arguing that they had the right to charge for passage, while others criticized the woman for not complying and moving on without reporting.

Criticism also extended to the government for failing to effectively address issues of criminality and thuggery in Lagos.

Subsequently, @dammiedammie35 posted another video showing the apprehension and subsequent handling of the men involved in the incident.
