Tonto Dikeh is urging organisers of the proposed nationwide protest to seek dialogue with President Bola Tinubu saying that the chaos that would otherwise ensue could be detrimental to all

Nollywood actress and politician Tonto Dikeh has issued a heartfelt plea to Nigerians, urging them to reconsider participating in a nationwide protest scheduled for August 1-10, 2024 but rather seek dialogue with President Bola Tinubu.

In a letter shared on her Instagram page, Dikeh expressed empathy for the frustration and concerns over the nation’s current state, acknowledging the daily struggle with skyrocketing prices.

Despite understanding the citizens’ plight, Dikeh believes that a protest may not be the most effective approach. Reflecting on the unfortunate outcome of the EndSARS protest, where ill-intentioned individuals hijacked the movement, she fears a repeat of such violence, potentially endangering many lives.

Instead of the protest, Dikeh advocates for establishing a representative group to engage in dialogue with President Tinubu. She emphasized that the economic hardships affect everyone and should be addressed through peaceful and diplomatic channels.

“Sometimes we can be right, but our mode of expression is what matters. This is an honest plea to all Nigerian youths. Let’s make smart choices,” Dikeh urged.

Her call for a peaceful approach comes amid her own controversial political journey. In October 2023, Dikeh was unveiled as a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) by the party’s women leader, sparking backlash from netizens who labeled her a hypocrite. Defending her decision, Dikeh asserted her commitment to Nigeria’s progress and the well-being of its youth, emphasizing that impactful leadership requires visionary and selfless service.

Tonto Dikeh’s political involvement has also seen her questioning the actions of other leaders. A few months ago, she challenged Labour Party presidential aspirant Peter Obi over his unveiling of borehole projects in Northern states, questioning his commitment to the nation’s advancement and expressing disappointment in his actions.

The call against protest will be seen as another expression of fidelity by Tonto Dikeh with President Tinubu.
