A Nigerian doctor has achieved a Guinness World Record for the largest drawing

Nigerian doctor and hyper-realism artist Fola David has achieved a new Guinness World Record (GWR) for the largest drawing by an individual.

The Lagos-based visual artist embarked on a six-day challenge starting on July 16 at Onikan Stadium, with the aim of creating a 1000 square meter artwork showcasing Nigeriaā€™s diverse cultures.

On Friday night, he shared an update on social media, writing: ā€œCongratulations to us all. On Day 4 at 9 pm, we broke the current record of 629.98 square metres, but we are not done! As the goal is to get over 1000 square metres of canvas covered in drawings; we are currently at 689 square metres. Letā€™s Go!ā€

Among the notable Nigerians who visited David were Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party; former GWR holder Hilda Baci; and Farooq Oreagba, the businessman who made headlines at the 2024 Ojude Oba Festival.

David, an alumnus of the College of Medicine University of Lagos (CMUL), also received support from the collegeā€™s management.

GWG.ng reports that the attainment of the Guinness record for the largest drawing by an artist comes after some yet to be recognised Nigerians made the largest painting on a canvass of a human being which turned out to be President Bola Tinubu. The painting was unveiled on June 12, 2024.
