The Federal Ministry of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs has canceled its plan to sell subsidized rice to public servants.

The ministry’s sudden withdrawal of the initiative has left many questioning the government’s commitment to supporting its workforce amid the ongoing economic crisis.

The initial circular, issued on August 1, promised a 50kg bag of rice at a subsidized rate of N40,000. However, just a day later, the ministry retracted the offer, citing no reasons.

The withdrawal has raised question about the government’s strategy to alleviate the suffering of public servants, who are already grappling with the harsh economic realities.

The ministry has promised to provide further updates, leaving public servants in limbo.

GWG.ng reports that this development comes as Nigerians continue to face skyrocketing food prices, inflation, and economic hardship.
