Olympics: Why Nigerian Men’s Team Was Disqualified From 4x400m Final (Video)

In a sad development, the Nigerian men’s 4x400m team has been disqualified from competing in the finals of the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The quartet of Emmanuel Ojeli, Ezekiel Nathanial, Dubem Amene and Chidi Okezie had earlier sealed a place in the final after finishing second in heat 1 behind France. They ran a season’s best time of 2:59.81.

However, the Nigerians were, disqualified for stepping on the line in the heat.

Belgium has now moved to second position, with South Africa stepping up to third position.

The hopes of the Nigerian men’s 4x400m team of emulating the 2000 and 2004 teams that won gold and bronze in Sydney and Athens have now been dashed.

GWG.ng reports that it has been a tale of disappointments as other Nigerian athletes who began the games well, failed to qualify for the finals in their respective events at the Olympics.

High expectations were dashed after world record holder, Tobi Amusan failed to qualify for the final of the 100m hurdles at the ongoing Olympic event in Paris.

Amusan, the 100m Hurdles World Record holder, made a statement at the Paris 2024 Olympics, winning her heat and advancing to the semifinals with a blistering time of 12.49 seconds on Wednesday. However, she failed to improve on that in Friday’s semi-final.
