Massive Security Deployment As Nigerian Cities Brace For Massive #EndBadGovernance Protest
Hundreds of police and security operatives have been deployed across major cities in Nigeria as organizers prepare for a one-million-man march Saturday, to demand an end to bad governance.
The 10-day protest, which has seen killings and attacks on protesters and journalists will reach its apex on Saturday with the one-million-man march across the country’s state capitals with a bold demand for the reversal of fuel subsidy removal, increased minimum wage, and improved governance in Nigeria.
Despite losing momentum in some areas, protests continue in states like Kano, Kaduna, Rivers, and Bauchi. Organizers vow to lock down the country, rejecting President Bola Tinubu’s appeal for patience.
The Take It Back Movement’s National Coordinator, Sanyaolu Juwon, announced a pivotal moment in the campaign, with protests planned in all 36 states and Abuja. He demanded the release of arrested protesters and organizers, condemning their detention as a gross violation of rights.
Security agencies have increased their presence, mounting roadblocks and deploying operatives to potential protest sites. However, organizers remain undeterred, promising a massive turnout.
In Lagos, police are stationed at major bus stops, while in Abuja, a heavy security presence is visible at Eagles Square.
The protest organizers are resolute, saying, “Let’s meet at the barricades.” Following the one-million-man march eyes will be on the prospects of the movement that has held Nigeria spell bound in the agitation against bad governance.
