The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has dismissed circulating social media claims that corps members’ bank accounts are being upgraded in preparation for the payment of a new N70,000 minimum wage.

The NYSC clarified that no directive has been issued by the relevant authorities to initiate such payments or to modify corps members’ accounts in accordance to the new national minimum wage.

In a statement released on Saturday by NYSC’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Eddy Megwa, the Corps described the reports as misleading and completely untrue. The NYSC emphasized that the information is not based on any official communication and warned corps members, parents, and the general public against falling for such misinformation.

“The attention of National Youth Service Corps management has been drawn to misleading information circulating in the media regarding payment of N70,000 minimum wage to corps members and the directive to upgrade their accounts. This is an absolute falsehood which is far from the truth,” the statement read.

The NYSC further clarified that no instructions regarding the new minimum wage have been received from the government sector responsible for wage matters, making it impossible for the Corps to implement or communicate such changes.

The organization urged corps members to rely on official communication channels and to disregard unauthorized directives. Additionally, the NYSC called on bloggers and social media influencers to refrain from spreading unverified information about the Corps’ management.

In conclusion, the NYSC advised corps members to remain vigilant and not allow themselves to be misled by those intent on spreading false information.
