A photo of Seyi Tinubu, son of Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu in the council chambers during the swearing-in ceremony of the new Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) is sparking outrage in the social media.

The image, which showed Seyi Tinubu sitting behind Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to the President, during the event in the council chambers, has led to widespread speculation and debate online.

One user on X (formerly Twitter) voiced the concerns of many, writing, “What is Seyi Tinubu doing at the back of Femi Gbajabiamila at the CJN swearing-in, or do we now have an Office of The First Son in the Federal Government of Nigeria?”

See his post below;

The incident raised many unanswered questions about the role of the president’s son in government affairs, with critics questioning whether his involvement signifies a formal or informal position within the administration. As of now, there has been no official response to the speculation surrounding Seyi Tinubu’s presence at the ceremony.

However, X user, Hon. Rilwan interjecting took a different route from many who criticised his presence at the Council Chambers as he advised President Bola Tinubu to formally appoint his son as special assistant so as to remove the indecorum of Seyi Tinubu wrongly interjecting in state functions on in the council chambers.

He tweeted thus:

Another user, however, defending Seyi Tinubu on his presence at the inauguration said:

Read some netizens’ reactions to Seyi Tinubu appearance at the CJN swearing in ceremony;

@don174: They have turned this country to a joke, family affair

@mrdouble: Do they have work?

It would be recalled that President Tinubu had last year given specific directions that Seyi should not be present at the council chambers during meetings of the Federal Executive Council following social media uproar of his presence at a FEC meeting.

The presidency is yet to react to the development or even insinuate if the picture of Seyi Tinubu in the Council Chambers was even a superimposition given the earlier directive of the president.
