Obaseki Issues ‘Do-Or-Die’ Warning Ahead Of Edo Election

Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has declared that the upcoming governorship election is a “do-or-die affair,” warning that any attempt at electoral malpractice by the opposition could result in dire consequences.

Obaseki made this statement during a rally organized by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Ekemwan area of the state.

He did not mince words, stating that any fraudulent activities from the opposition would not be tolerated. “The person I took over from had no respect for our people, had no respect for women, encouraged prostitution and women trafficking,” he said.

Reflecting on his tenure, Obaseki noted the positive changes in the state since he took office. He highlighted improvements in the welfare of pensioners, who now wear white on Labour Day instead of black, and the progress made in creating jobs for the youth. “When I took office, our youths had no jobs, but today don’t they have jobs? After eight years, is Edo not one of the safest in Nigeria?” he asked.

Emphasizing the importance of the election, Obaseki urged the people to vote for the PDP to secure continued progress in the state. “This election is a do-or-die. If they do, we will die. Next week Saturday, vote for PDP to become the next governor.”

The governorship election, scheduled for Saturday, September 21, will see key contenders Asue Ighodalo of the PDP, Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party (LP) competing for the position of governor.
