The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has responded to allegations of discrepancies in the result sheets of the ongoing Edo State Governorship election.

In a post shared on its official X handle, INEC acknowledged receiving allegations about wrong figures being entered into polling unit results from the Edo election.

The Commission confirmed it as the second complaint it has received out of the 4,519 polling units across the state.

INEC assured the public that it will launch an immediate investigation into the matter and take appropriate action if any infractions are found.

This comes amid heightened scrutiny of the electoral process, with voters and observers closely monitoring developments as results are tallied.

INEC’s statement read:
“The Commission’s attention has been drawn to an allegation of wrong figures entered into polling unit result sheets in the ongoing Edo State Governorship election. This is the second complaint we have received out of the 4,519 polling units used for the election. The Commission will immediately investigate the matter and deal with any proven infraction.”

Despite the allegations, INEC reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the integrity of the voting process as the state awaits the final results of the election in Edo State to choose a new governor of the state.
