Video: Nigerians Trade Blame As Mother Trades 5-Month-Old Son For Phone, Clothes

A disturbing video of a young mother trying to exchange her 5-month-old son for an Android phone, clothes, shoes, and some money has gone viral on social media.

The video, shared on X (formerly Twitter) by user @dammiedammie35, shows the woman surrounded by shocked onlookers as she speaks to a man filming her. She openly declares her intent to sell her baby.

The conversation in Yoruba shows the man asking how much she wanted for the child. The woman, however, said she didn’t want money. Instead, she asked for an Android phone, clothes, shoes, and some money to buy food. She said if they gave her these things, she would leave her baby with them and never come back for him.

When the man asked where she was from, the woman said she is from Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State. She also confirmed that her child is just five months old. The man then assured her that she would get everything she asked for.

The video has sparked outrage and concern online, with many calling for an investigation into the woman’s actions and for the safety of the child.
