Davido on loss and faith

Afrobeats star Davido has shared his thoughts on coping with loss and how his faith has played a crucial role in helping him move forward.

During an interview with ‘Mystery Fashionist’ in New York, Davido talked about the painful losses he has faced. He recounted the tragic death of his mother, Mrs. Victoria Adeleke, when he was just 11 years old, and the recent passing of his three-year-old son, Ifeanyi. He also paid tribute to his late friends Tagbo, DJ Olu, Obama DMW, and photographer Fortune.

“I have lost a lot of people. I lost my mum at the age of eleven. I’m just being strong. I did a song called ‘Stand Strong.’ I feel like strength and obviously, my faith has kept me going,” he explained.

Davido also took the opportunity to clear up some misconceptions about himself. He emphasized the value of family and acknowledged that his musical talent and success are gifts from God.

“I think sometimes people think I am not approachable. Another misconception is that people also think I am too accessible,” he noted.

He further explained, “I grew up in a big family. I’m used to having people around me. My talent and success is God-given.”
