The WhatsApp number of Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has been hacked, according to a statement released by his spokesperson, Bolaji Tunji, on Thursday night.

In the brief notice, Tunji urged the public to disregard any messages or requests for financial assistance coming from the hacked number, warning that the solicitations are not from his principal, Adebayo Adelabu.

“Please be informed that the Honourable Minister of Power’s WhatsApp number has been hacked. Kindly disregard any appeal for money or financial support made through the number 08022901928,” the statement read.

This incident marks the latest in a troubling trend of government officials falling victim to WhatsApp hacks. Just six days ago, the WhatsApp number of the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, was similarly compromised. Additionally, the Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Enoh, also had his WhatsApp account hacked earlier.

Nigerians are advised to remain vigilant and avoid engaging with any suspicious messages, particularly those soliciting financial help, until the issue is resolved.

GWG.ng reports that the WhatsApp account of the minister was hacked after Adebayo Adelabu claimed that more than 40% of Nigerians were now enjoying 20 hours of power supply a day.

He has been repeatedly slammed over the claim in the public arena.
