Tragedy struck in Suru Local Government Area (LGA) of Kebbi State as Bako Bala, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the area, was shot dead by gunmen during a suspected kidnapping attempt at his home.

Zaidu Bala, the Special Adviser on Television and Radio to Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris, confirmed the incident, stating that Bala and his family were abducted in the attack. Despite efforts to save his life, the APC chairman succumbed to gunshot wounds after being rushed to the Medical Centre Hospital in Birnin Kebbi.

“To Allah we belong and to Him we shall return. Alhaji Bako Bala has passed away — the APC chairman of Suru Local Government,” Zaidu Bala announced in a heartfelt Facebook post.

Police spokesperson in Kebbi State, Nafiu Abubakar, is reportedly working to confirm further details surrounding the attack.

This tragic killing is part of the escalating violence in Nigeria’s northwest, where banditry and kidnappings continue to pose significant security challenges. The region has seen a rise in such incidents as security forces work to combat the growing insurgency and restore peace.
