Fubara Grabs Rivers’ Structure From Wike As APP Sweeps Chairmanship Seats
The grip of Governor Siminalayi Fubara over the political grassroots in Rivers State was on Saturday evening being formally concretised as the Action Peoples Party, APP coasted to victory in 22 of the 23 chairmanship seats in the election held earlier in the day.
GWG.ng reports that the election passed off smoothly in many parts of the state with minimal episodes of violence. Where violence was triggered the overwhelming presence of supporters of the election appeared to have overwhelmed troublemakers.
Despite not being a member of the APP, GWG.ng reports that the victorious chairmen were loyalists of the governor and the victory is the formal entrenchment of the governor in the political structure of the state as against the desire of his predecessor and erstwhile godfather, Nyesom Wike.
The Action Peoples Party (APP) secured a landslide victory in the just-concluded local government elections in Rivers State, winning 22 out of 23 chairmanship positions.
The results were announced by the Chief Election Officer of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), Justice Adolphus Enebeli, on Saturday in Port Harcourt.
However, the declaration of results for Etche Local Government Area has been temporarily suspended as the collation process is still ongoing. Justice Enebeli confirmed that the results for Etche, along with those for the 319 councillorship positions across the state, will be announced at a later date.
This decisive victory further solidifies the APP’s stronghold in the state, as it takes control of almost all the local government chairmanship positions.
